Further information...
My friend has just uploaded a file. Looking in the upload folder, as the file was uploading, there was nothing, no file with increasing size.
When the upload finished, there was no file.

Notice that the filename contains
? where Chinese filename characters are not displayed. I have asked for an upload with the filename in English, but remote uploader hasn't done that yet. Hopefully they will, and we can see if it makes any difference. Maybe if I install the Chinese character set, the file might eventually get saved. Could be a red herring, but who knows? By the way, this has occured with 150 and 160beta versions of HFS.
