I have a 10GB folder with 20,000 files. The last time I had to make a backup, I first zipped the files into one big file, and then used HFS to transfer the file to the other computer. Is there any other way to copy such a big folder to another computer over the internet, without having the zip the file? I was thinking, I could right click on the remote folder, select "copy" and paste into explorer or something like that but thats not possible. I would have to go into each sub-folder, right click on each file and "save as" into the local PC, which is ofcourse impossible.

So basically, I'm trying to make a remote backup on another PC over the internet.

you can use archive function in hfs. run hfs, put the folder you want to share/backup to hfs. in hfs, right click on that folder and make sure you tick "archivable".
then, use the other computer to surf to your page (http://yourhost:port) and browse to that folder. you should see "Folder archive" link at the bottom right. jus click on this link. hfs will download all contents inside this folder in *.TAR file. you need program like winRAR to unpack it later.
good luck!

Thank, I'll try this. Is there any other software that you know of, which allows straight copying of folders without compressing them into archives? I used to use AOL messenger before which allows sending of folders, but this folder is big so I couldnt sent it.

if i not mistaken, LogMeIn can do it. logmein actually used as remote assistance tool, but it also have ability to allow file/folder sharing just like using ftp. install only on the "sender" computer, the other computer need to log in at www.logmein.com before able to get the file. i cannot explain in detail because i dont have chance to use it right now, but its easy to use that software and im pretty sure u can do it on your own.

a good download manager will do that (with HFS on the other side).
ICQ has folder copying too.
