Hello,

HFS is a great little server but I have run into a problem in trying to get HFS (which resides on the win 2k server) to recognize a mapped network drive.  I have a nexstar lx nas that has its own ip and creates its own folder named 'public' where you can store folders and files in it.  Win server 2k has a mapping to the lx drives network name to a (N:) drive.  HFT can't see this drive in My Computer nor will it let me add the network name to the the add files window of HFS.  HFS doesn't see the "public" folder on the lx nas either.

I could fix the problem by putting all the folders and files now on the nas into a newly created folder but this would screw up all the configurations that use the N: as it is now set up.  Also, the folder would not update when the lx nas gets changed files or folders.

Any ideas?

what version are you using? did you already try the 2.3 beta?

does your N: drive appear when you access "my computer" ?

I am using 2.3 beta.  The N: mapped drive shows everywhere when the drive path is displayed as in My Computer, N: shows all contents when a shortcut on the desktop is clicked, and it works as expected when the N: drive is added to FZ ftp server.  I can see all physical drives (like a:, c:, d:, e: usb drives in the HFS driver path display when I click "add files from drive" box that HFS displays except the N: mapped drive doesn't show.  I also tried dragging the actual LX share name of the lx box that shows up in the HFS drive path listing under other network computers but the name will not stick into the HFS path box on the left side where folders and files normally show.

Thanks,

Rick

That's interesting!

I was using 'add folders'.  I tried adding the c:\ drive as a folder and it worked.  I was trying to add N: to do the same thing.  Is adding a drive letter as a folder legit syntax on HFS?

I just tried 'add files' and a different looking box poped up and the N:\ drive IS there.  I can add any or all the folders but I was trying to use N:\ as a high lever folder.

Thanks

I was using 'add folders'.

that's the right way to add a full drive.

yes, it's handled as a folder.

clearly 'add files' is not the right tool for you.

did you try right clicking on the N drive in my computer?
you should get the "add to hfs" command.

That is the problem, I can't add N:\ as a high level drive in 'add folders' because I can't see it.  Its not in the tree that shows a,c,d,e physical drives.

Also,  if I right click N:\ in my computer I don't get anything like 'add to hfs'.  I just get the usual stuff like explore, delet, rename, ect.....

menu -> other options -> integrate in shell context menu
this should give you the "add to hfs"

but i can't "integrate in shell context menu" in windows 7 x64, i get a "Can't write to registry. You may lack necessary rights." which is incorrect.

however, you can overcome that too, by dragging and dropping the drive directly inside hfs GUI.

right click on HFS, run as administrator.
now you can integrate.
next time you run HFS administrator is not needed.
