poll system

hi. regarding the poll system from http://www.rejetto.com/forum/index.php/topic,5115.0.html. i was wondering if the results could be written to an external file and then tallied and the final number  put into the hfs page somwhere. i have to poll embeded but there is no way to add up all the votes and get a final number. is there a way to do this??
