When I go to my external IP address from within my LAN, I get redirected to my Router.
This is unwanted, is there a way to go to my HFS server, while going to my external IP address from within my LAN.
This is not if I go to my external IP address from another household.

I had the same problem.
I read here that the reason is because you can't access your HFS server with your external IP to your own computer.
If someone else OUTSIDE YOUR LAN will try it, it will work!

You just need to foward the right port (80 in my case).

80 will get you to your router conf. if you try to access HFS from INSIDE YOUR LAN.

use proxy or anonymouse.org service to try it out. it works fine in my case.

best thing to watch your site: use localhost as address
best thing to test your reachability: use the self test feature

yes use the external ip from outside your network but on your side you have two possible choise your lan ip wich can look something like 192.168.xxx.xxx or 10.0.0.xxx or localhost followed by the port you set in hfs so it should look like this
http://localhost:yyyy or http://192.168.xxx.xxx:yyyy etc, etc.
