Title: change description of this section
Post by: bacter on October 02, 2007, 06:33:57 PM
to Rejetto:

I suggest to change the description of this section that is now:

for all languages - post in you native language - no official support

to:

français, português, deutsch, español, nederlands, svenska ... etc.  - no official support

for those who don't even understand your description. :)

Then there is the next problem: Is this board moderated?

Without moderation, it could go out of control. No mod can understand all languages, so there had to be at least one for each language... or so I thought.

indeed, there is a "report to moderator" link on every post

That list will become very long...

btw isn't deutsch ? dutch in dutch.?. i'm pretty sure nederlands isn't a language... I will ask my friend GE from the Netherlands... :P

But yes report new languages and the list will be updated.

Notes about languages:
français = french
português = portuguese
deutsch = german
español or castellano = spanish
nederlands = dutch
svenska = swedish (almost understand well by danish and norwegian people).

with these languages (besides english and italian) we cover most of the european languages that use latin characters.
Most scandinavian people at least understands english. Perhaps That_stevens_Guy does not consider dutch as a language,
because most of them also know well english and/or german.

I think there is no need for special moderators. I don't fear that this part of the forum will go out of control. I hope that there are enoungh people here with the needed common sense (btw. the most uncommon sense!) to report strange behaviour to the moderator.

The most important thing is to see clear the meaning of the multilingual forum. The goal is not to have a separated or paralel forum. I see it more as a way for non-english writing people to get some support in their own language. A lot of people can understand (with less or more difficulties) some english, but they are not able to express them clearly.
This forum then permits them to explain problems or propositions in their native language. This will be easier to understand than the same explication in bad english. To understand what the poster wants to say is almost half of the answer.

Some simpler questions could then be resolved directly here, perhaps even a lot of them indicating the corresponding wiki-section. But if it's a interesting problem or proposal, or if we can't not solve the problem, those of us who speak more than one language should port the question to the english forum, and when there appears a solution, port it from there to here in the original language.

I'm with bacter here, I don't think that the forum will get to out of control and if it does there is always the report to moderator link. There will probably be someone here that can speak both english and the language someones posted in because someone had to have translated hfs into their language originally.

Just report indecent posts to us and we will sort it out, like was discussed earlier, 'report to moderator'

And about the translated HFS, i think atm there is only Russian, Chinese and English translating the source, some languages are waiting for hfs to support language files or something from memory... So all these other languages must be using the English version. But if they feel more comfortable discussing things in their own language, thats what this board is for :)

Oh and Deutch is German I looked it up today :P

No, duits is deutsch in dutch and nederlands is dutch in dutch

Perhaps That_stevens_Guy does not consider dutch as a language,
because most of them also know well english and/or german.

We learn both languages at school. After two years, german becomes optional tho, english is still required.

Anyway, i like this idea :)
