These words are directly from the original author of HFS, me, rejetto.

In 2002, using some chat systems, I was tired of problems given by integrated file transfer. Here's a list of some problems I met

  • the transfer failed without saying why
  • scarily slow
  • folders were not supported
  • no resume
  • no big files
  • some file types were censored
  • or no file transfer was available at all!

So I wished I had an alternative for such cases.

In 2 afternoons, i built the first working version of HFS. It was not meant to do what is doing right now for most of its users. This is the main reason of its far-from-perfect design.
